The Brick Office Remodel
Lead Designer & Project Manager, 2015
Shelby Township, MI

The Brick Office Remodel was a project for a Law Office client seeking to renovate an existing home-turned office. The project scope involved creating a natural lobby and reception area for the law offices and also to create additional office suites for multiple tenants spaces in the existing bedrooms.

The existing structure remained much as it had when it was still a 1950’s era home - tight, dark corridors, many dingy, poorly lit bedrooms but with original well-maintained oak floors and the simple, mid-century massing.

To keep in style with the horizontality of the original home, brick coursing and slot window dimensions remained unchanged along the front elevation of the building. Along the sides and the rear of the structure, masonry openings were greatly expanded to provide ample light and move away from interior spaces that felt distinctly ‘1960s bedroom’.

With many of the clients entering from the rear parking lot, the existing carport on the back of the structure was converted into a proper ADA accessible entryway. On the interior, hardwood floors were refinished, a spacious kitchenette was installed and a new conference room was built around the existing living room stone hearth.
