Sitka Spruce cabin
Fall 2022 - Spring 2026
North Oregon Coast

Contractor: Scalabrin Company, Manzanita, OR

A family cabin on the rugged, North Oregon Coast.

The site is steep and beshrouded with mature sitka spruce, douglas fir and alder. Due to the forest, steep grade and site complexities, the cabin placement and layout has been designed to minimize earth disturbance and building footprint while still utilizing conventional foundation construction.

The house is sided with board and batten western red cedar. Exposed timbers include western red cedar posts and douglas fir rafters and roof decking.

The interior features a polished concrete floor with hydronic in-floor heating, douglas fir casing and cabinetry and maple floors on the second level.

Vaulted spaces and dormers on the second floor provide a dynamic interior with year-round verdant, natural light.
Salty air and Pacific breezes filter through the evergreen understory in this year-round, temperate(ish) environment.
